CHOOSING THE RIGHT PAINT

I love colour so it's always exciting for me to start designing a piece of work, paint and blend colours, fire the item in the kiln and wait for the result!

The paints I use are powdered on-glaze colours that I mix with oils to create my palette from which I work. The paint stays 'open' on the china until it is fired in my kilns. I have painted my own charts in the various colours as some change once fired. What starts out as a sludgy dark colour changes into a definite pigment.

About the brushes: I work with fine sizes, so I get through a lot!

Design plays an important part in my work. Inspiration comes from many places and I am happy to discuss ideas with my clients. I create my own designs some from childhood memories others from the world about me. Choosing the right design for a piece of work sometimes flows with the shape of the item.
